Central and yet alone we are here on the farm Brotheiteri in Thunstetten. I love the seclusion: Nobody wrinkles their nose when we work on Sunday or when we spread dung. And if things have to go fast, the nearest airport is only ten minutes away. We have owned the farm here since 2016. Before that, my husband Hanspeter and I ran a mountain restaurant in the Napf Region (Emmental) for 27 years. Even today we still like to manage guests and our daughter already has the innkeeper’s patent.

She and the three other children also support us in organising the 1st August brunch, which we offer every year. With the brunch on the national holiday we want to bring agriculture closer to the non-rural population. We are of the opinion that home-made food is much more taste-intensive and also healthier, since it contains seasonal ingredients and no colourings or flavour enhancers. So our guests can enjoy homemade bread (Schwinger- and Älplerbrot), jam from our own fruits as well as milk and meat from our animals.

Our life on the farm is as varied as our products. In addition to the main business of cattle fattening with around 40 calves, we also produce our own honey, have a peacock and Hanspeter has been the owner of forest enterprise “Forstunternehmung Schwarz” since 1993. We take care of garden and park woods, young wood care, woods in heavy stocks as well as back and forwarder work. Currently we are around 5 part-time workers. So there’s always something going on at the Brotheiteri farm.
