Becoming a farmer has always been my greatest dream. Thanks to my grandfather, who bought a farm in our neighbouring village in 1983, this dream became a reality. With my wife Regula and our three adult children I now cultivate 50 hectares of land in and around Arisdorf. While I take care of the cows and pigs, Regula breeds cats of the breed “sacred cats of Birma” as well as large Swiss Mountain dogs. At the moment there are three cats and every year 8-12 puppies find a new owner. There are also rabbits, a few chickens and two horses living on the farm. So there is always something to do!

Although I am a farmer with a passion, the current agricultural policy is a problem for me. We can no longer deliver our fine sweet cherries to the big retailers, as they must now have a diameter of at least 22mm (!). It is sad that my professional colleagues have to cut down their splendid high pedigrees and replace them with tasteless varieties, just because nobody wants to sell the old Swiss cherry varieties anymore. The situation is similar with pork, because here too we are dependent on the buyer. The paradox is that the margins of the butcher and the retailer are so high that my pork would still be more expensive than EU meat if I gave it to the butcher for free.

Through the direct sale of my products and my profile on, I hope to be able to shake the Swiss population awake, because things cannot go on like this. My youngest son would like to take over the family business and has completed his agricultural training. But because I can’t even pay him a decent wage, he has to work abroad. I think that’s a shame, because the farming profession is supposed to be a profession of passion and not an additional burden if you have to go to the stable after a hard day’s work.

Visit us at the Halde farm and discover the difference between tried and tested Swiss cherry and plum varieties compared to the tasteless and overpriced giants of retailers. We also sell meat from our calves, cattle, pigs and rabbits (always mixed packages of at least 5 kilos) and offer milk subscriptions (3, 6, 12 months).

Convince yourself of our local delicacies and support us on our way to a new independence! See you soon.
