Switzerland is a corona hotspot. Hardly any surrounding country has recorded a higher percentage of cases. While some only have a slight fever, no longer taste anything or show no symptoms at all, others are fighting for survival. Whether shopping, on the train or at work, the rising number of cases means there is a high chance of being infected. That is why it is worth thinking about the immune system as well as masks and hand washing. It is much easier to influence the immune system than the invisible danger posed by viruses. So, let’s get going, sport and healthy eating are the order of the day!

Exercise in the fresh air and sunshine strengthen the immune system and are balm for the soul. Escape from the daily grind can do you a lot of good and helps against stress. Because together with lack of sleep, it has been proven to weaken us. You should also avoid ready meals and too much sugar. Vitamins, such as those contained in vegetables or fruit, are better if they are prepared raw or gently. Drinking a lot is important to activate circulation and metabolism.

Pumpkin soup – naturally because it is in season

The days are getting shorter. Pullover, gloves and scarf are ready to hand. A warming soup can do a lot of good. It’s best to use seasonal ingredients, because they contain more healthy substances than foods that are harvested unripe and have been transported long distances. Whether green, yellow, red, orange, as soup or on the grill: pumpkins are extremely versatile. Halloween vegetables also have a lot to offer in terms of healthy ingredients. With only 27 calories per 100 grams, pumpkins are not only a healthy filling food, they also contain a lot of beta-carotene (protective substance for the cells, antioxidant), minerals (especially potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium) and satiating fibre.

Some like them on the barbecue, others prefer the seeds, which have anti-inflammatory properties and contain a lot of unsaturated omega-6 fatty acids. During the cold season, however, pumpkins are mainly known as soup. The best recipe for a pumpkin soup that the founder Lara Steiner ever received is from a Dutch cook. After this soup you will feel as if you can never get sick again – guaranteed!

Recipe for 3 litres of soup (approx. 6 people)

2 onions 3 cloves of garlic 3 carrots 1 sweet potato 1 butternut pumpkin (ca. 25cm) 3 cm ginger 1 apple water with Buoillon little salt and curry powder juice of 1 orange

Finely chop the onions and garlic and fry in olive oil until golden. Then fry the carrots, sweet potato and pumpkin briefly, also finely chopped. Deglaze with water and buoillon. Add apple and ginger. Season with a little salt and curry powder. Cover and simmer on medium heat for about 15 minutes until everything is soft enough for the blender. At the end add the orange juice and puree. The pumpkin soup is ready :) If you prefer it creamy, you can refine the soup with some cream or coconut milk. Roasted pumpkin seeds also go well with this soup.

And remember: autumn is pumpkin time. In season, the orange all-rounders not only taste better, but are also healthier for people and the environment.
