We are Bertha and Thomas Schmid and come from the beautiful Kandertal in the Bernese Oberland. We have been running the Niesenflaken farm together since 2017. As the name suggests, it is located at the foot of the Niesen. The Niesen is also called the Pyramid of the Alps because of its pointed shape. Our motto is: “What we do today decides what the world will look like tomorrow.”

The Niesenflanken farm covers around 20 hectares in the mountain zone. Our animals graze in the valley from April until the beginning of May, before we move on to the front pasture. Then in mid-June we go up to the alp.

The alp is a communal mountain. Everyone has their own dairy and cheese dairy. During the summering period we produce between 600 – 1000 kg of AOP alp cheese. Our goats also love the fine grass and the alpine herbs. Delicious goat cheese is made from their milk. In addition, about 15 calves accompany us every summer. We raise as many of them as possible.

Our goal is to use as many animals as possible ourselves and thus close the cycle. Therefore, we sell the fresh beef directly from the farm as mixed packages. Only a small part is sold on the slaughter market. In addition, we offer our own dried meat and long-life sausages.

You can find our cheese and meat specialities in our self-service refrigerator on the farm. From time to time we can also be found at markets.
