As father and son, we, Patrice and Thierry Papaux, run the 62 hectare farm in La Verrerie FR. Milk is the heart of our production. More than 70 dairy cows produce about 580,000 litres of milk per year. In total, our family has around 140 cattle, which are housed in a modern barn built in 2016. We also own five hectares of corn, barley and wheat.
Besides our milk production we are passionate Holstein breeders. We wake up every morning with the desire to improve and develop our herd. Because the more beautiful a cow is, the older she gets! We attach great importance to the comfort and well-being of our animals. With two alpine huts, the animals can graze in the mountains every summer and are duly celebrated when they return to Désalpe (Semsales) in October.
We recently joined Faireswiss. The dairy cooperative is committed to fairer farming: The work of the farmers who feed the population of our country should be valued more highly. Our family immediately joined this project because we are convinced that the price of milk in Switzerland is not remunerated at its fair value. Our work is not easy every day, but we are passionate about it and support initiatives like Faireswiss. This passion unites us. And now we are working together on the farm as father and son to perpetuate the fruits of our labour.
If you come to La Verrerie, we will be happy to let you taste the fresh milk of our cows and show you around our farm. And if you bring a container with you, you are very welcome to take a litre of milk home with you… at a fair price of course.
