We, Köbi and Marianne, have been managing the farm Birren farm in Schindellegi for over 20 years. Our three children Johanna, Andrin and Julia live with us. We keep seven suckler cows with their calves, seven rearing cattle, five chickens with their rooster, four cats, two wool pigs and the rabbit Hoppel.
As a sideline, we have been producing compost from green waste of the green waste collection and the dung of the animals for many years. With this compost we promote an intact soil life and also need it for the cultivation of our organic vegetable seedlings. Our customers can then harvest the vegetables themselves in our large garden. The independent harvest can thus become an experience and strengthen the relationship to nature and food.
Our farm philosophy is also based on this love of nature: we at the farm Birren see ourselves as part of a larger whole. As such we are in constant interaction with man and nature. Our conviction is that in the long run humans, animals and plants can only develop and unfold their potential together. For us, therefore, an attentive and peaceful approach to the whole of creation is of central importance. Out of gratitude and humility for what has grown and developed, we are aware of the great responsibility through our being and creation. For this reason we do not use any kind of spray. Much love and gratitude for nature, farm compost and homemade Homa ash from cow dung are used to sow the seedlings and to feed the soil. On our farm we use our talents to create a world worth living in for tomorrow. We see this as our task and we walk this path day by day.
If you are interested in fine organic vegetables for your own harvest, if you need compost for your garden or your raised bed or if you would like to spend a cosy winter evening in our yurt, we look forward to hearing from you!
